Sea Fishing

Although probably best known for its game fishing, Assynt is also a hotspot for sea anglers.

Fishing is possible off the beaches, rocks, pier and from boats. Although there are no charter boat services, some anglers will find willing boat owners at Lochinver and it might be worth inquiring at the Tourist Information Centre. Tackle is sold at the Newsagents on right on your way into Lochinver and at the chandlery stores near the harbour.

Most common catches from the shores include: Mackerel, Pollack and Coley, Flatfish, and more recently several reports of Sea Bass caught from local beaches.

However, we need your information.

Please see the interactive sea fishing map. This shows some of the main locations for sea angling in Assynt but we need your information to build this up. Please tell us:

  • Where did you fish?
  • What did you catch?
  • What method worked best?
  • What were the conditions like?

You can do this in 3 ways:

  1. If you fished at one of the mapped locations, click on the marker on the map and leave a comment.
  2. Leave a comment on the main comment page
  3. Use our Add Your Sea Fishing Location form.

Also, please answer our questionnaire about angling in Assynt.
